SRINAGAR: The annual Amarnath Yatra was suspended on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from both the Pahalgam and Baltal base camps following continuous rainfall that has damaged the pilgrimage tracks along both routes.
Officials said the suspension was necessitated to allow urgent restoration work by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), which has deployed additional personnel and machinery to carry out repair operations. The pilgrimage is expected to resume on July 18, 2025, subject to weather conditions.
“Due to the continuous rains over the last couple of days, urgent repair and maintenance works are required to be carried out on the tracks. Therefore, it has been decided that no movement shall be allowed towards the Holy Cave from the two base camps today,” said Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri.
However, pilgrims who had halted at the Panjtarni camp during the preceding night were permitted to descend to Baltal under the supervision of BRO and Mountain Rescue Teams.
Authorities have assured that all necessary arrangements are being made to ensure the Yatra resumes safely and smoothly. The final decision on resumption will depend on weather assessments later in the day.
So far, more than 2.47 lakh devotees have paid obeisance at the Holy Cave Shrine since the commencement of the Yatra on July 3, 2025.
