SRINAGAR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in the wake of intensifying cross-border tensions following the Indian Army’s launch of Operation Sindoor, in response to the deadly attack in Pahalgam.
According to media reports, Shah has been in constant communication with top officials, including the Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF), and has instructed the BSF to take all necessary safety measures to protect civilians in border regions.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, meanwhile, reviewed the ground situation in the Union Territory’s border districts on Tuesday morning. In a statement issued on social media platform X, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor said, “I’ve also directed the DCs for shifting of villagers from vulnerable areas to safer locations and ensuring boarding, lodging, food, medicare and transportation. We will ensure safety of every citizen. Jai Hind!”
Sinha also stated that the administration was fully prepared to handle any contingency. “Took stock of the situation in border districts of J&K UT with all the senior administrative, police and district officials including DCs of all the border districts. I’m closely monitoring the situation and the government is fully prepared to deal with any eventuality,” he posted.
Earlier in the day, the Home Minister reaffirmed India’s firm stance against terrorism, declaring that the country was determined to eliminate terror networks and respond forcefully to any aggression.
“Proud of our armed forces. Operation Sindoor is Bharat’s response to the brutal killing of our innocent brothers in Pahalgam. The Modi government is resolved to give a befitting response to any attack on India and its people. Bharat remains firmly committed to eradicating terrorism from its roots,” Shah wrote on X.
Operation Sindoor was launched in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians and injured several others. As per media reports, precision strikes were carried out deep inside Pakistan’s undisputed territory, marking India’s most significant military action across the border since the 1971 war.
Indian forces reportedly targeted multiple terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), signalling a bold strategic posture from New Delhi in the fight against cross-border insurgency.
The situation continues to remain tense, with both civil and military authorities on high alert across the border belt in Jammu and Kashmir.
