In a statement, APSCC Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said the situation called for collective compassion, transcending barriers of faith and religion. “In 2014, when the Kashmir Valley was hit by floods, the people of Punjab came out in full support of their Kashmiri brethren. Hundreds of trucks carrying food grains and other essentials reached the Valley from Punjab,” he recalled.

Raina said it was now the duty of the Valley residents to reciprocate. “The people of Punjab are suffering badly at present. Some people and organisations have already started contributing, but more efforts are needed,” he emphasised.

Highlighting acts of generosity, Raina made special mention of Balbir Singh, a Srinagar resident, who has donated 350 tents, 250 tarpaulin sheets and 100 mattresses for flood-affected families in Punjab. He urged more individuals and organisations to step forward.

“The same would convey a message of love, compassion and brotherhood,” Raina said, appealing for a united response from Jammu and Kashmir at this critical juncture. (KNO)
