SRINAGAR: Yasin Malik, who was given a lifer by the court on Wednesday, will be imprisoned in a high-security jail, reports in the media suggest. He will be separated from other prisoners.

Malik pleaded guilty on May 19, following which he was sentenced to two life sentences, which he will have to go concurrently.

“He is already in jail no.7 and will continue there presently. He is alone in his cell,” Director General (Prisons), Sandeep Goyal, was quoted as saying by news-gatherer IANS. The particular jail is a high-security one.

Though rigorous imprisonment is aimed at increasing the prisoner’s hardships, Malik is unlikely to be made to work for “security reasons”.

The court, in its sentence award, did mention Malik’s conduct in the jail, which it termed satisfactorily. However, he will be under CCTV surveillance.

During his imprisonment, Malik will not be entitled to any parole or furlough. However, he can go to a superior court against his sentence.
