SRINAGAR: Police in Jammu Kashmir’s Ramban district have registered a case against a Bangladeshi woman for allegedly entering and residing in India without valid travel documents, Daily Excelsior reported on Saturday.
The woman, identified as Happu Akhter of Habiganj district in Bangladesh, was traced to the Kunfer area of Chanderkote after police received specific information regarding her presence, a police spokesperson said. Investigations revealed that she had crossed into India without a passport or visa.
According to the spokesperson, verification showed that Akhter had been staying in the area for several days. A preliminary inquiry further suggested she had attempted to conceal her identity, raising “serious suspicion” about the purpose of her stay, Daily Excelsior reported.
A case under relevant provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act has been filed at Chanderkote Police Station, and further investigation is in progress.
Police have appealed to the public to remain alert and avoid offering shelter, assistance or accommodation to any illegal foreign national. Officials have also cautioned against entering into contracts or marriages with individuals whose legal status has not been verified, warning of possible legal consequences.
Authorities said the police remain committed to upholding internal security and ensuring strict enforcement of immigration laws across thedistrict.
