SRINAGAR: A Baramulla baby identified as Bisma opened her eyes for the first time after her birth in Hoshiarpur, Chandigarh newspaper The Tribune reported. She is of two years of age.

She was operated upon in Hoshiarpur and opened her eyes the first time.

The operation took place at the Tricity Eye Hospital, Kharar where Dr Rohit and his team carried out the operation on the infant. Bisma is the daughter of Mohammad Shafi, a resident of Rafiabad in Baramulla.

The Rotary Eye Bank and Corneal Transplantation Society, Hoshiarpur, not only arranged cornea but also bore all the expenses for the surgery, according to the newspaper. A meeting of the Rotary Eye Bank and Corneal Transplantation Society was held at Dr Bali Hospital where Bisma and her father were present.

Hoshiarpur’s Rotary Eye Bank and Corneal Transplantation Society operate in association with KK Langar, the Chairman of Vipan Langer & Education Trust Rajouri.

In the last few years, the Hoshiarpur Club led by J B Behl has helped more than 15 blind residents of Jammu and Kashmir in cornea transplants. The Club also has some affiliations with its Jammu unit.
