Amid continued protest over official apathy, the students of Bibi Haleema College of Nursing and Medical Technology accused the college authorities of issuing threats for asking them to call off their protest strike.

Students of the institution Wednesday alleged that the college authorities are threatening them with dire consequences if they didn’t call off the ongoing strike against the college.

“They threatened to disqualify us in coming exams, if we didn’t call off the strike”, local news agency KNS reported quoting a female student.

The students have been protesting against alleged official apathy for getting the college registered by authorities outside the state, which would have enabled them to earn jobs or higher degrees outside the state.

Meanwhile, Principal of the College, Tanveera Makhdoomi admitted that the future of the students of the college was dark.

“Their (student’s) future is really in dark and I agree it is painful”, said Mukhdhoomi to KNS. However, she said that she met twice with the Punjab Nursing Registration Council (PNR) authorities who in return assured of immediate registration.

“I don’t know why there is delay. The Institution is recognized by Indian Council and affiliated with Kashmir University, the only lacuna is registration”, she added.

“The process of registration is on and there is no deadline for it. Had it been in my hands I might have implemented it”, she added.

When asked about the student’s demands for deputing a permanent principal to the college, she said, “In my opinion, principal should not be changed frequently”.
