Chenab Above Danger Mark, Jhelum Touches Critical Level, Other Rivers Recede Across Jammu Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: According to river gauge readings issued on Wednesday evening, water levels across Jammu and Kashmir showed mixed trends, with the Chenab continuing to flow above the danger mark in the Jammu region, while rivers in Kashmir valley remained below critical levels.

Data from the Irrigation and Flood Control Department for 8:00 p.m in the Kashmir division showed the Jhelum at Sangam recorded at 23.35 feet against the danger mark of 25 feet, at Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar at 21.07 feet, slightly above its alert level of 18 feet and touching the danger mark of 21 feet, and at Asham in Bandipora at 11.83 feet, comfortably below the alert level of 14 feet. Officials described the situation as being under watch but not critical.

In the Jammu region, reports from Kashmir Weather said the Chenab in Jammu district was flowing at 36.5 feet, above its danger level of 35 feet though slightly receding. The evacuation mark on the river is 42 feet. The Tawi and Balole nallah in Jammu were reported well below the alarm level, both showing receding trends.

In Kathua district, the Tarnah and Ujh rivers were stable and below alarm levels, while the Ravi was flowing above the alarm mark but also receding. In Samba, the Basanter, Devak and Bein nallah were all reported stable and below the danger threshold. The Poonch district also remained calm, with all rivers and nallahs well below alarm levels.

Officials said the situation continues to be monitored closely with special attention on the Chenab in Jammu and the Jhelum at Ram Munshi Bagh, while the overall trend across most rivers was either stable or receding.
