All eyes in Jammu and Kashmir are on Tuesday when counting of votes will start in all the district headquarters.
The five-phase election in the state stretched for nearly a month saw 66 percent voting.
“The counting will begin at 8 am and the first trends are expected to trickle within an hour or so. All security arrangements are in place at the counting centres,” official sources said on Monday.
As many as 5000 officials, besides concerned Assistant Returning Officers (ARO), would conduct the counting of votes and the entire process would be video-graphed and the trends would be shared every hour.
The state witnessed a quadrangular fight among ruling National Conference, main opposition PDP, BJP and Congress.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who led NC’s bid to retain power, and Opposition PDP’s chief ministerial candidate Mufti Mohammad Sayeed are among the 821 candidates who contested elections.
While Omar contested from Beerwah seat in Budgam district and Sonawar seat in Srinagar, Mufti is seeking re-election from Islamabad assembly segment in the south Kashmir district.
Meanwhile, security arrangements have been completed and political parties have been told to avoid any celebrations “to avoid any untoward incident”.
