Courier Boy Thrashed in NIT Demands Action

The courier boy who was beaten by non-local students in National Institute of Technology here on Friday said that the police should book the accused students for thrashing him.

Imtiyaz Sheikh, the courier boy working in E-Com express, a private courier firm, said that he entered in NIT campus on Friday afternoon but was stopped by the non-local students and thrashed.

“I refused to chant slogans that the non-locals students wanted me to shout due to which they thrashed me ruthlessly,” Sheikh told KNS.

He said that he can also identify the students involved in his thrashing. “I can also identify the students. Even some among them are my customers and I know their names as well. Bhanvari Lal is the student who thrashed me with bat,” he said.

Sheikh said that he was injured due to the thrashing and doctors two stitches on his arm while received injury on his head as well. “I only remember that Station House Officer, SHO of the concerned police station referred me to Habak hospital for treatment,” he said.

Vice-President Security, E-com express, Sanjeev Chopra said that they will approach police in this regard so that the students who beat Sheikh will be dealt with law.

“Company has always taken care of its workers and this time too we will take care of our boy,” he said.

Meanwhile, the tight security was deployed in and outside NIT where clashes erupted due to non-local students thrashing the local students for celebration India’s defeat to West Indies in T20 World Cup semi-final.

The NIT administration has said that the institute will re-open on Monday.
