SRINAGAR: Students of the Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) have secured major academic and technological achievements after winning the prestigious BIRAC E-YUVA Fellowship and clinching first position at SynerTech 2026, bringing national recognition to the institution.

In a significant achievement for the Department of Biotechnology, students Khalida Saher, Rayyan Niyaz and Maryam Aijaz were selected for the Government of India-supported BIRAC E-YUVA Fellowship Scheme under the mentorship of Dr Rouf Ahmad Najar. The fellowship carries a research grant of Rs 2.5 lakh along with quarterly stipends.
The selected project, titled “Ion Responsive Nanofluidic Regulation of ER Exit Site Decisions: A Computational Study of Golgi Bypass in the Tumor Microenvironment,” focuses on understanding how cancer cells survive under stressful tumour conditions such as low oxygen levels and nutrient scarcity through advanced computational modelling.
University officials said the research is expected to contribute significantly to the fields of computational biology and cancer research by providing deeper insights into tumour cell survival mechanisms.
Meanwhile, students of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering secured first place at “SynerTech 2026”, a two-day technology and innovation event organised by the Kashmir College of Engineering and Technology (KCET) on May 9 and 10.
The winning team — Nimra Wani, Milad Ajaz Bhat and Shiblee Showkat, all sixth-semester B.Tech CSE students — impressed judges with their technical innovation and collaborative problem-solving skills. The team received a cash prize of Rs 10,000 for developing an advanced CRM-based Academic Management Portal designed to digitise and streamline academic and administrative operations at KCET.
The students also created a fully functional Android application to improve accessibility for students, faculty members and administrators.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Ravinder Nath congratulated the students and faculty members, stating that the achievements reflected the university’s commitment to innovation, research and academic excellence.
Dean Academic Affairs Prof. Shahid Rasool said the success demonstrated the talent and potential being nurtured at the university.
