SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that a panel has been formed to address the regularisation of daily wagers in the Union Territory. The committee, led by the chief secretary, has six months to submit its recommendations.
Speaking in the Assembly, Abdullah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fast-track recruitment. Over the past two years, 15,000 vacancies have been filled, including 9,351 non-gazetted posts and 2,175 gazetted positions.
He said the government is reviewing 10,757 multi-task service (MTS) vacancies and preparing to refer 6,000 more for recruitment. To speed up hiring, interviews for posts up to Pay Level 6 have been abolished.
Recruitment regulations were revised in November 2022, introducing computer-based exams and a single test for multiple posts where possible. The JKPSC and JKSSB have been tasked with completing recruitments within set timeframes.
By year-end, the government aims to fill 1,502 gazetted and 5,751 non-gazetted posts, including 150 junior engineer positions. Hiring in the higher education department is also progressing, with 150 assistant professor and librarian posts under process.
The Government on Wednesday constituted a 6-member committee to examine the issues related to regularisation of casual, seasonal labourers or other workers in Jammu and Kashmir.
Headed by Chief Secretary as Chairman, the members of the committee include Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, Administrative Secretaries of Finance Department, General Administration Department (Member Secretary), Planning Development and Monitoring Department and Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
