At least 40 civilians including women were injured on Saturday morning in Chee village in Islamabad district of South Kashmir when police arrived into the village and fired pellets and teargas shells on the civilians.

The village was hosting a conference on ‘Unity among religious groups for the precious cause’ at 11 AM on Saturday.

However, police and army barged in the village at 7 AM and disrupted the arrangements being made for the conference.

A local told Kashmir Life that the police ransacked the tent that was being installed on the spot. “There were clashes between the forces and civilians which resulted in injuries to around 40 people.”

Correspondent reports said that 14 of the injured have been admitted in district hospital Islamabad and rest are being treated in PHC Mattan.

Chee is located four KM away from Islamabad town on Islamabad-Mattan road.
