Large number of women took out rallies across Kashmir on Tuesday.

In its last protest calendar, the united resistance leadership had asked people to hold protest demonstrations on Tuesday as:

9th August (Tuesday): Relaxation (after 6 pm)

Women’s protests from Zuhr to Asr and Men’s protest from Asr to Magrib; play Islamic and Azadi Taranas in Masjids from Magrib to Isha.

Reports from Sirnagar’s Pantha Chowk area said that hundreds of women took out a peaceful pro-freedom rally after mid-day prayers. They raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans while marching on the main road.

In uptown Barzulla area, a group of over hundred ladies assembled in Eidgah and held protests. “They were escorted by a group of youth,” a local said, “they were seen gesturing the forces that women rally would not march towards main bridge to avoid clashes.”

Local reports from Palhallan said that hundreds of ladies took out a rally from Jamia Masjid Raipora around 2:30 PM.

The pro-freedom leadership had asked women to protest against civilian killings on August 09, 2016 from ‘Zuhr’ prayers up to ‘Asr’ prayers.

“Scores of youths were accompanying the ladies,” sources said, “there is huge deployment of forces at the main stop of Palhallan.”

The local sources added that as women rally proceeded towards Eidgah “forces started entering the town”.

“As women rally entered the Eidgah and the protest program started, clashes erupted as forces lobbed tear gas canisters,” locals said, “youth started pelting stones.”

They added that clashes are going on near Higher Secondary School while women are holding a congregation in Eidgah.

From Saffron town Pampore, local sources said that announcements were made early today from Masjid loudspeakers asking women to converge at Markaz-i-Khanqah Pampore.

“As women started assembling in the premises of Khanqah, forces came and dispersed off them even using tear gas canisters,” local sources said, “since then, the area has been sealed and strict curfew is in place.”

Correspondent reports from Islamabad said that women held protests in Chee area of the district.

Reports reaching from Mattan area of South Kashmir said that hundreds of women held pro-freedom protests in the area when they came out from different localities of the town and assembled near Jamia Masjid.

The women were carrying placards and marched through different streets of the town and along the KP road. Activists of Dukhtaran-e-Millat also addressed the women in Jamia Masjid.

Meanwhile, hundreds of women took out a rally in Mahind village of Bijbehara.

Amid pro-freedom slogans, the protesting women marched through the streets of the village finally culminating at Eidgah.

Meanwhile, newspaper report said that hundreds of women staged a sit-in against the civilian killings at Kupwara chowk where they held a sit-in protest.

Correspondent reports further said that a rally was held in Waghama area of Bijbehara.

“Some three persons were caught on suspicion in the rally by public who were beaten up,” reports said.

Meanwhile, Kashmir is observing complete shutdown on 32nd consecutive day as mass protests spread and government imposed curfew continues.
