On Sunday, forces foiled a pro-freedom-cum-unity rally in Trehgam village of North Kashmir’s Kupwara District.
The rally was planned to be held in Eidgah at Markaz-i-Jamia Masjid but due to strict curfew, the venue was shifted to a “square” in the locality.
Everyday rallies are planned across Kashmir, some commence successfully, some rallies are, however, foiled.
As the Masjid loudspeakers started playing Azadi songs as people started assembling, the CRPF, army and policemen wearing heavy protective gear marched through the village.
According the locals, the forces were planning to carry out a raid on the youths inside the Masjids when men and women came out and asked the forces that any such move will have “horrific consequences”.
The deployment of forces has been beefed up in view of the rally.
“There are hundreds of army, police and CRPF men in the main village market,” a witness who is an employee in health services department told Kashmir Life.
The army patrolled through the localities carrying guns and batons.
An army party has been deployed in the village outskirts.
