After the Friday congregations were over, people, almost everywhere across Kashmir came out in processions and later dispersed peacefully. However, at a few places, threes processions ended up in stone pelting as their way was apparently blocked by government forces. Pellets and tear smoke shells were used at most of the places and the number of injured was not immediately known.

“You can say there were protests at as many as 70 places,” one senior police officer, told Kashmir Life. “But at a few places, we had to use force, quite mild.”

There were serious post-Friday disturbances in Dooru, Beerwa, Baramulla and various parts of Sopore. The major disruption was at two places in Akhran in Islamabad and in Pulwama where two boys, who died in hospitals in last 24 hours, were buried. Unlike Pulwama, the situation in Akhran was slightly serious where a number of people were injured and hospitalized. In Pulwama after the boy was laid to rest, there were some protests in Rajpora Chowk. One report said some of the injured in Dooru may survive with serious eye damages. Most of the injured in south Kashmir were managed locally in Islamabad and Pulwama.

Police said there was a major gathering in Achabal which was arranged by Hafizullah Mir. They said that at many places they had to fire pellets and tear smoke shells from same distance.

Processions after the prayers were reported from Bandipore, Sumbal, Rafiabad, various places in Sopore and Kupwara.

Police said they have arrested 60 persons in last 24 hours.

In view of the violence and stone pelting incidents on the previous Fridays, curfew was imposed in parts of Srinagar and in the towns of Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, Baramulla and Handwara, the police said in a statement.

Stray incidents of stone pelting were reported from a few areas of Srinagar, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian, Awantipora, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora and Sopore. “At these places, miscreants assembled on the roads after Friday prayers and pelted stones on police and security force deployments,” the statement said. “Apart from these incidents the situation remained under control till filing of this report.”

During the last night miscreants set ablaze Panchayat Ghar at Pinglish Tral, causing damages to the structure.

Sixty two miscreants who have been involved in the offences of damaging civilian vehicles, vandalizing of shops and also placing obstructions on roads and lanes have been arrested during last 24 hours across Kashmir.
