Thousands of people have gathered in Theed to offer funeral prayers to the young boy whose pellet-devastated body was recovered by locals Friday evening. They have defied curfew restrictions and are assembling, police sources said.
Police said there were intense clashes between protesters and the police after Friday prayers. Around eight persons were injured, some of whom were shifted to hospitals.
What shocked people was the recovery of the dead body of a young boy almost 100 meters away from the spot of the clash. He had more than 380 pellet injuries on his back and one of his arms fractured.
Locals identified him as Nasir Shafi son of Mohammad Shafi Qazi and Jameela. He was a student of seventh standard, they said. He was recovered from the Dachigam side of the village in an orchard that is normally far off from the public eye, locals informed.
Locals alleged that the boy was caught and beaten after he was critically injured. A police officer, not involved in the action, however, said the boy might have died of massive blood loss after being hit by the pellets.
As the news about recovery of the body spread, most of the belt was on streets for most of the night. Though authorities imposed severe curfew restrictions to ensure a gathering and a law and order situation, people defied curfew and assembled in huge numbers in Theed, Harwan and many other places on the Foreshore Road.
A Kashmir Life reporter who visited the spot said there are clashes at a few places as police was using tear smoke shells to disperse the gatherings.
