After 19 Indian army soldiers were killed in a suspected militant attack on a brigade headquarter in Uri on September 18 morning, people of several adjoining villages are facing intense problems since then.
Four suspected militants stormed the brigade headquarter, destroyed barks, killed 19 soldiers and injured more than two dozen others before they died.
However, since then, the army has been taking extra-measures to thwart any such attack which has created problems for the people living near Line of Control (LoC). The roads to these villages pass through the same brigade headquarter.
On Friday, people from Churunda, Budgra, Sokar and Sukdar Villages met sub-divisional magistrate Uri in Baramulla district and put for their demands.
“The army doesn’t allow our vehicles to pass through the camp,” they are reported to have told the SDM, Showkat Ahmad Rather. “We face much difficulties in case of emergencies like illness and other issues.”
More so, the people from Sokar and Sukdar buy ration from main town Uri. “But we can’t take the rice home because army doesn’t allow us to drive vehicles to our home villages,” the residents said.
Rather, sources said, will be approaching and talking to official at the brigade headquarter in this regard.
Notably, the brigadier who headed this army brigade when the attacked took place, was shifted out “because investigation in the attack is going non”.
