Former Chief Minister and senior National Conference working president Omar Abdullah has said the ban on high value currency notes to curb terror funding has not been fulfilled as two fresh Rs 2,000 notes were seized from two militants who were killed in an encounter in Hajin, media reports quoting Omar said.

Addressing a gathering in Doda where he was on a three-day tour, Omar said, “The purpose of ban on Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes was to stop terror funding. It has failed in it as two freshly minted Rs 2,000 notes were found on the two militants who were gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Bandipora.”

The former CM, according to the reports, said “After the government’s decision to scrap high value currency notes, I have not seen any rich person standing in a queue for money. Wherever I have gone, I have seen common people in distress standing in long queues for hours for their own money.”
