SRINAGAR: An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale struck Myanmar early Tuesday, with tremors reported across parts of northeast India, including Manipur, Nagaland and Assam, as per several media reports.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), as per Hindustan Times, the quake occurred at 6:10 a.m. near the India–Myanmar border, around 27 km southeast of Ukhrul in Manipur. It had a depth of 15 km, with coordinates fixed at latitude 24.73°N and longitude 94.63°E.
The epicentre was located close to several Indian towns, lying 155 km south-southeast of Wokha in Nagaland, 159 km southeast of Dimapur, 177 km south of Mokokchung, 171 km northeast of Ngopa in Mizoram, and 193 km northeast of Champhai.
The tremor followed a series of low-intensity earthquakes in the region and neighbouring countries over the past three days. On Tuesday at 4:28 a.m., a 3.3-magnitude earthquake struck Tibet at a depth of 10 km, around 227 km north of Arunachal Pradesh’s Pangin and 303 km north of Assam’s Dibrugarh.
Earlier the same day, at 12:09 a.m., Maharashtra’s Satara district was jolted by a 3.4-magnitude quake, 91 km northwest of Kolhapur, with a depth of 5 km.
On Saturday, September 27, Bangladesh experienced a 3.5-magnitude earthquake at 1:57 p.m., with mild tremors felt in parts of West Bengal. The quake occurred 89 km east-northeast of Kolkata at a depth of 10 km.
Authorities have not reported any casualties or damage from any of the recent quakes.
