SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Mechanical Engineering Graduates Association (JKMEGA) on Saturday urged the government to reorganise the Mechanical Engineering cadre and expand its presence in the Jal Shakti Department, citing an outdated structure that hampers service delivery.

At a meeting chaired by its president Er Firdous Ahad Bhat at the M and HED Complex in Shalteng, members said a single Mechanical Division currently serves four to five districts on average, a framework they said dates back nearly four decades and requires urgent review.
The association appealed to Omar Abdullah, Javed Ahmed Rana, Nasir Aslam Wani, Atal Dulloo and Shaleen Kabra to consider creating one dedicated Mechanical Division in each district for both PHE and I and FC wings.
JKMEGA also called for the creation of a separate post of Mechanical Hydraulic Chief Engineer under a proposed Engineer-in-Chief, and pressed for early implementation of the Assured Career Progression scheme, regularisation of pending cases and prompt placement against vacancies at AE, AEE and XEN levels.
The body further sought immediate referral of vacant Junior Engineer (Mechanical) posts to the recruitment board, stating that strengthening the engineering cadre is essential for efficient public infrastructure and governance.
