Speaking to reporters after attending the premiere of Harmukh  in Srinagar, Abdullah praised the performances, saying, “This is very good, they have acted very well.”

The former chief minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir emphasised the potential for Kashmiri-language films to reach wider audiences through dubbing into other regional languages. “I hope they make more films in Kashmiri language, like in other states such as Tamil Nadu, Andhra, Bengal and Bollywood. These movies can be dubbed so people everywhere, including the Kashmiri diaspora, can watch and understand them,” he said, as reported by media.

While encouraging film production in the local language, Abdullah also stressed the need for quality storytelling and production. He remarked that some earlier attempts at local cinema lacked artistic merit and failed to reach the audience.

“Let our producers and directors make good films. Kashmir is a beautiful place and there is tremendous talent. The local actors will get a break here, and they can then showcase their talent elsewhere,” he said.
