SRINAGAR: The Managing Director of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) conducted a comprehensive on-ground review of power arrangements along the Pahalgam axis in Anantnag district amid Amarnath Yatra 2025
Accompanied by the Chief Engineer (Distribution) KPDCL and the Superintending Engineer, Circle South (Bijbehara), the MD evaluated the ongoing infrastructure works and issued directives to ensure round-the-clock electricity supply throughout the Yatra period, scheduled to commence from July 3, 2025.
The Superintending Engineer briefed the MD on illumination and backup systems installed across various padavs (halt stations). These include the deployment of diesel generator (DG) sets of varying capacities and solar lighting systems in shadow areas or regions beyond grid coverage.
It was also informed that sufficient fuel reserves have been stocked at all strategic locations, with scheduled replenishments in place. To manage unforeseen outages, buffer distribution transformers (DTs) and standby DG sets have been stationed at critical points.
At the Nunwan Base Camp, the MD reviewed progress on underground cabling works and expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of execution. He was also informed that, due to additional operational padavs and heightened security presence, contingency reserves had been activated to manage increased load—so far handled effectively by the division.
Emphasising the importance of uninterrupted service to pilgrims, the MD directed field officers to maintain the highest levels of readiness. “This sacred Yatra is a matter of collective responsibility. KPDCL will ensure the power framework remains resilient and responsive throughout the Yatra,” he stated.
He assured continued institutional support to the ground teams to ensure hassle-free power delivery during the Yatra period.
The MD was accompanied by concerned Executive Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers and other senior officials of the Corporation during the visit.
