In South Kashmir, ahead of Assembly elections, Police has tighten its noose on former militants and youth involved in stone-pelting incidents in past. Sources told CNS that police have apprehended several youth and former militants while a youth from Deva Colony Islamabad was sent to Central Jail on Monday.

Atif Hussain Sheikh alias Babloo, who drives a load-carrier was arrested by police on Saturday and today he was sent to Central Jail. His wife told CNS that Atif was arrested by police in 2010 for his alleged involvement in stone-pelting incidents that year. “After his release, he hired a load-carrier and started work to take care of his family. At present, he had no involvement in any stone-pelting incident and yet police arrested him and sent him to Central Jail,” she said.

The family members of another former militant Ashiq Hussain resident of Mattan Islamabad alleged that police picks up Ashiq, whenever any political leader visits the town. “My son spends two to three days in police station in a week. He has left gun and now he is earning for his family, but the past still haunts him,” she said adding that her son is still in police station for none of his fault.

Police has reportedly started the process of calling former stone-pelters to police station and according to sources all these youth would be released only after the culmination of poll process in South Kashmir.

A police official told CNS that police calls only those youth who are ‘trouble-mongers’ and could create law and order problem on the election day.
