SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Wednesday arrested a drug peddler in Kulgam and booked three habitual offenders under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act in Sopore.
A police spokesperson in a statement said, “In Kulgam, a police team led by the Incharge Police Post Frisal, along with the Executive Magistrate, raided the residence of Wakeel Ahmad Dar, son of Maroof Ahmad Dar, at Peerbal Mohalla Frisal in Yaripora. Acting on specific inputs, the team recovered 5.145 kilograms of grinded cannabis and 1.735 kilograms of poppy straw-like substances. The accused was arrested on the spot. A case under FIR No. 45/2025 has been registered at Police Station Yaripora, and further investigation is underway.”
Meanwhile, in Sopore, police booked three repeat offenders—Muneeb Jabar Dar alias Shoga of Muqam Shaheed Mir (lodged at District Jail Udhampur), Imtiyaz Ahmad Khandwaw of Baghi Rehmat (lodged at Central Jail Kot Bhalwal), and Ishrat Ahmad Mir of Adipora (lodged at District Jail Kathua)—under the PIT NDPS Act.
“All three individuals were involved in multiple narcotics-related cases and continued to pose a threat to public safety. After sustained surveillance and compilation of detailed dossiers, formal detention orders were issued by the competent authority following legal scrutiny,” police said.
Police reiterated its zero-tolerance approach towards drug trafficking and urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to narcotic substances to assist in creating a drug-free society.
