SRINAGAR: Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Pulwama and Sopore districts of south and north Kashmir and recovered contraband substances from their possession in separate operations.
In Pulwama, a police party of Police Station Kakapora intercepted a vehicle (Innova) bearing registration number JK02DA-4166 during a checkpoint at Kandizal near the NH-44 Underpass. Two persons on board the vehicle were identified as Liyaqat Ali, son of Nazir Ahmad Akla, resident of Nagrota, Jammu, and Amanat Ali, son of Gh Mohammad Mustafa, also a resident of Nagrota, Jammu.
During search, police recovered approximately 533 grams of poppy straw and 20 charas sticks weighing about 735 grams from their possession. The accused were arrested on the spot, and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also seized.
In a separate operation in Sopore, a police team of Police Post Warpora intercepted two suspicious individuals during naka checking at Dangarpora–Warpora Bypass Road. Upon search, charas-like substance and Codeine Phosphate were recovered from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Umar Amin Banday, son of Mohammad Amin Banday, resident of Noorbagh Sopore, and Basit Ahmad Shah, son of Abdul Aziz Shah, resident of Naseem Bagh Sopore.
Cases under relevant provisions of law have been registered at the respective police stations, and investigations have been initiated.
Jammu and Kashmir Police reiterated its commitment to curbing the drug menace and appealed to the public to share information related to drug trafficking activities.
