A group of interns, in a representation shared with the media, claimed that they are facing a serious accommodation crisis as they have been directed to vacate hostel rooms even though several rooms remain unoccupied.

The interns further alleged that important documents, including provisional certificates and other paperwork required for provisional registration, are being withheld by the administration.

“These documents are essential for our future careers, and withholding them appears to be a means of coercing interns into leaving the hostel,” the representation stated, adding that the situation has caused significant distress among interns.

The issue has drawn condemnation from the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Students Association (JKMSA), which termed the alleged actions a violation of National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines.

In a post on social media platform X, JKMSA leader Dr Wasim Khan said GMC Anantnag interns were being “unfairly forced out of hostels while their registration documents are withheld,” adding that the situation endangers their careers. He called upon the authorities to release the documents and provide accommodation to the interns immediately.

The Jammu and Kashmir Medical Students Association also issued a statement condemning what it described as the “unfair eviction” of interns and the withholding of registration documents. The association said such actions jeopardise the careers of young doctors and demanded immediate intervention by the administration to resolve the matter.

Another doctor, Dr Mohammad Akib Javid, also criticised the alleged delay in registration processes and withholding of documents. In a social media post, he said that forcing interns to vacate hostels while delaying registration formalities was unacceptable and amounted to creating unnecessary hurdles in the careers of young doctors.

The GMC Anantnag administration could not be contacted for comment. Their response, if received, will be carried in a subsequent report.
