Calling the rejection of the autonomy resolution passed in the state assembly by the central government as a mistake, National Conference (NC) Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani said that Government of India( GoI)  has no other option but to restore autonomy to the state.

Stating that autonomy is more than just an agenda item of NC, Wani said that Chief Minister is making efforts at high level at the centre for restoration of autonomy. He said the opposition Peoples Democratic Party is responsible for creating hurdles in revocation of controversial Armed Forced special Powers Act (AFSPA).

“Autonomy is a document passed by the state assembly. In year 2000, the then central government committed a mistake by throwing the resolution of autonomy passed by State Legislative Assembly onto the backburner”, said Nasir.
The former MoS for Home said that various formulas and opinions have been presented by various parties for resolution of Kashmir “but it is only the Autonomy that has been supported by central interlocutors and former President of Pakistan Parvez Musharraf.

“Now centre doesn’t have any other option but to implement Autonomy”, he claimed

Reiterating his party’s demand for revocation of AFSPA, he said that efforts are being made to clear the apprehensions of the Army regarding revocation of AFSPA.

“AFSPA was brought into force when circumstances were undesirable but now situation is apparently much better in various areas and AFSPA has to be revoked from these areas”, said Nasir.

Launching a scathing attack on main opposition party, PDP, he said that AFSPA is the gift of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to the state.

“PDP is creating hurdles in revocation of AFSPA as it is wants that revocation credit should not go to Omar Abdullah. It was Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who committed Gawkadal, Bijbehra, Hawal, Handwara, Kupwara and other massacres”, said Nasir.

He said that the healing touch of PDP after taking power in state was to kill Hizb militants who were ready to come across the table for talks.

When asked about certain NC leaders’ statements against Centre and Congress party, he said,“That is their own view and that should not be attributed to party. They (Leaders) are bound to follow the policy of party. No one is above the party”. He said that there were no differences among leaders within the party.

When asked whether the NC and Congress shall have pre poll alliance in coming state assembly elections, “In my opinion, we should have it”, he replied.
