SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has expanded inclusion under the Public Distribution System (PDS) to strengthen food security measures across the Union Territory.
Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Satish Sharma said that the move follows Government Order No. 47-JK(FCS&CA) of 2024. “”The order mandates inclusion of children aged six years and above in family ration cards. These children will be classified under existing categories such as Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), Priority Household (PHH), Non-Priority Household (NPHH), or Exclusion.
The Minister said the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) has also been asked to identify and include previously omitted eligible persons into the PDS structure in line with established norms.
He added that widows and divorcees not covered earlier can now receive separate ration cards after notifying the department. Eligibility will be determined as per provisions under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
Sharma said the changes are aimed at ensuring all eligible citizens, especially vulnerable individuals, are included in the food supply framework.
