SRINAGAR: Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Sunil Sharma on Wednesday accused the ruling National Conference government in Jammu and Kashmir of failing to deliver on its commitments and avoiding accountability.
Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly complex in Jammu, Sharma said the government must provide clear answers on its promises to the people. He noted that during the previous Budget Session, the administration had cited its limited time in office as a reason for inaction. “At that time, they said they had completed only two months. Now one and a half years have passed. What has the government done for the people in this period? They need to respond,” he said.
On the issue of statehood, Sharma said there was no meaningful discussion. He pointed out that the matter was not mentioned in the Lieutenant Governor’s address. “Statehood was completely absent. When questions began coming from Kashmir about its status, the ruling party’s MLAs staged protests here merely to create a spectacle,” he alleged.
Criticising the government further, the Leader of Opposition said such actions were aimed at misleading the public. “Do they expect someone to provide them with a ‘statehood security guard’? This government has failed on all fronts and is now resorting to theatrics to deceive the people,” Sharma said.
He claimed that the public has recognised what he described as the government’s misleading approach. Referring to the party’s loss in Budgam, Sharma said it reflected growing public awareness. “The government has been in office for more than one and a half years and must answer for all its commitments. It has failed miserably, and its decline began with the loss of the Budgam seat,” he added.
