Acting on specific intelligence, the enforcement team of South Kashmir set up a checkpoint on the intervening night of March 14 and 15, intercepting two vehicles carrying battery scrap without proper GST documentation. The traders were found violating GST regulations by failing to register, invoice, or pay the applicable tax on their transactions.

Officials noted a rising trend of unregulated battery scrap trade, warning that such practices not only breach tax laws but also pose environmental and public health risks. Under GST law, all supplies, including battery scrap, must be duly recorded and taxed to ensure transparency and compliance.

The enforcement drive was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Enforcement South Kashmir, Anil Kumar Chandail, with guidance from P.K. Bhat, Commissioner of State Taxes J&K, and Parvez A Raina, Additional Commissioner State Taxes, Kashmir.

Authorities have urged traders, recyclers, and transporters of battery scrap to regularise their GST compliance to avoid penalties and legal action. Businesses seeking further clarification have been advised to contact the GST department or visit the official government website.
