Srinagar

Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Tuesday tweeted supporting the stand of Jammu and Kashmir civil society (coalition of trade bodies & civil society experts) on Goods and Sales Tax row that is dominating the political scenario of Kashmir these days.

In a couple of tweets, Mirwaiz said that the government’s move to enforce GST in Kashmir is aimed at “eroding the special status of J&K & in turn affecting the disputed nature of Kashmir”.

The state government is planning to implement Good and Services Tax in state as has been done in other states of India but the opposition parties and traders & civil society is opposing the move as they see it as a ploy to erode the special status that Jammu and Kashmir enjoys under Indian constitution.

Today the assembly session on GST witnessed acrimonious scenes as the two sides indulged in verbal and physical spats. The session is expected to last for four days.
