Foriegn-Tourists

Many key tourism players have jointly come up with lucrative and economical packages to woo tourists in post-flood Kashmir.

Houseboat owners and hoteliers have jointly taken the decision to flip the flood-hit tourism of the valley. Hoteliers have started giving discounts of between 30 and 40 percent, said a local hotelier.

He said the idea has been mooted to counter the negative tourism coverage received by Kashmir after floods.

“Normally, once the spring sets in Kashmir, hotels remain booked,” says Lateef Ahmad, a local hotelier. “But this time around, major hotels are vacant. So, we are giving discounts.”

As per the reports, the tourism rush has gone down drastically after floods. The government has taken up initiatives, but nothing seems settled as of now.

One of the major tourism dampeners is said to be the flood warning shot by state government on the face of swelling Jhelum early spring this year. This invited bad press to Kashmir tourism sector, which couldn’t take off at the beginning.

To thwart negative publicity though, former chief minister Omar Abdullah took to his twitter to appeal tourists not to cancel their trips to the valley.

And of late, J-K CM Mufti Muhammad Sayeed flew to Mumbai and other Indian states to boost the tourism sector of the valley.
