SRINAGAR: Former Chief Minister and National Conference Vice-President, Omar Abdullah, on Saturday, extended an offer of technical assistance to the J&K administration led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to address the prevailing power crisis in Kashmir.

Expressing concerns over the administration’s perceived failure in handling the issue, Omar Abdullah made the offer during a day-long party convention in Sumbal, Bandipora.

Abdullah, speaking at the convention, highlighted the unprecedented power outages in Kashmir and drew attention to his past role as a power minister. Expressing his willingness to assist, he suggested that if the LG administration encounters challenges in resolving the crisis, they should consult him. He stated, “If the LG Administration fails to address the power crisis in the valley, I will guide them, drawing on my experience as a former power minister, and help find effective solutions.”

Abdullah also commented on the introduction of digital meters for electricity, expressing dissatisfaction with their performance. He stated, “Even if we don’t use any heating gadgets at home, they still display a significant consumption of electricity.” He referred to the replacement of digital meters with smart meters, calling them more like ‘Toofan meters.’

Casting doubt on the BJP’s claims of normalcy, Abdullah cited the recent loss of five soldiers in Rajouri. He pointed out the increasing militant activities in Rajouri, despite attempts to make it militancy-free.

Reflecting on the past, Abdullah discussed the historically friendly relationship between the PDP and NC. He recalled extending support to the PDP in 2014 and cautioning against involving the BJP in the valley. He expressed regret that their concerns had proven accurate.

Regarding the upcoming elections, Abdullah expressed hope for significant support for the National Conference. He acknowledged that not all votes may go to the NC but aims for a considerable mandate.

The former Chief Minister has been actively organizing party conventions in the Kashmir valley for several weeks, with the objective of strengthening the party’s foundation in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

A senior NC leader informed KNO that these conventions will persist until December 12, covering various locations across Kashmir. (KNO)
