SRINAGAR: The Embassy of India in Tehran has urged all Indian nationals—including students, pilgrims, businesspeople, and tourists—to depart Iran using available transport, including commercial flights, due to the escalating situation in the country.
The advisory, issued in continuation of a previous alert from January 5, 2026, emphasises that Indians in Iran should exercise caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, maintain contact with the embassy, and monitor local media for updates.
Citizens are also advised to keep travel and identification documents, such as passports and IDs, readily accessible and to reach out to the Indian Embassy in Tehran for assistance. The embassy has provided emergency contact numbers: +98 912 810 9115, +98 912 810 9109, +98 912 810 9102, +98 993 217 9359, and email: [cons.tehran@mea.gov.in](mailto:cons.tehran@mea.gov.in).
Indian nationals who have not yet registered with the embassy are requested to do so via (https://www.meaers.com/request/home). Families in India may register on behalf of those facing internet disruptions.
Iran is currently facing widespread, deadly anti-government protests that began in late December 2025 due to a severe economic crisis but have since expanded into demands for political change and the overthrow of the Islamic Republic government. Security forces have launched a brutal crackdown, reportedly killing over 2,500 protesters and arresting more than 18,000, with an activist group warning that a detained man, Erfan Soltani, faces imminent execution.
