Inter-State Narcotics Network Busted; Assets Worth Rs 92.73 Lakh Attached in Jammu

   

SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district have busted an inter-state narcotics network and attached illegally acquired assets worth Rs 92.73 lakh linked to accused persons in Beli Charana, Jammu.

The case began on March 20, 2026, when a police party from Police Station Qazigund apprehended a suspicious individual during routine patrolling at Kurigam near Railway Station Qazigund. The accused, identified as Mohammad Rafiq Mir of Panzinara, Srinagar, was found in possession of approximately 16 grams of heroin.

An FIR No. 43/2026 was registered under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act and investigation initiated.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that the contraband had been procured from Bagh Hussain Kasana of Channore Basti Gajansu, Jammu, presently residing at Nikki Tawi. Acting on this information, police conducted a search under a court warrant at his residence and recovered 265 grams of a heroin-like substance.

Following this, Section 29 of the NDPS Act was invoked and the accused was arrested on March 22, 2026. He is presently lodged in District Jail Anantnag.

Police said investigation revealed that the accused was involved in inter-state drug trafficking and supplying narcotics across the Kashmir Valley for financial gain. It was also found that he had no legitimate source of income.

A financial investigation carried out under the supervision of senior officers led to the identification and attachment of immovable assets acquired through drug proceeds, including land worth Rs 71.52 lakh and a residential house valued at Rs 21.21 lakh in Beli Charana, Jammu. The total value of attached assets stands at Rs 92.73 lakh.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS), said police are committed to dismantling drug networks operating within and outside the district. He said strict action will be taken against drug traffickers and those facilitating or financing such activities, and appealed to the public to share information related to drug trafficking while assuring confidentiality.

Police reiterated their commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and urged public cooperation to build a drug-free society.
