SRINAGAR: On the eve of BJP government’s Kashmir interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma’s maiden visit to Srinagar, the Geelani led Hurriyat Conference has reiterated that nobody from their camp will become part of the “useless talks” process.

“Hurriyat Conference rejects the facade of talks initiated to kill time,” a statement issued by the Hurriyat (g) said. “We reiterate that no forum or party from Hurriyat camp will become part of the process.”

“The dialogue that refers to the destruction in Yemen and Syria in a bid to threaten Kashmir, trying to make Islam understandable to us is actually extension of the military operation that is aimed at forcing Kashmir leadership to talk,” the statement said.

The Hurriyat (g) statement revealed that “some government representatives” were seeking an audience with the chairman at 10 pm on November 4. The said representative, the statement said, indicated that efforts were underway to pressurize Syed Ali Geelani to talk.

“These forced talks lack any moral or political grounds,” the statement said.

The statement said that the Hurriyat leaders have spent 20-25 years in Indian jails and have survived series of assassination bids. “Syed Ali Geelani has always preferred the resistance movement and has spent 23 years, since 1962 in jails, has survived serious assassination bids, was tortured in jails and now his relatives are also being arrested,” the statement said. “He has never comprised and will never compromise.”

The statement came on the eve of Sharma’s maiden visit on Monday.

Already, Sharma’s office has extended invitations to most of the unionists parties. Reports said that the invitations were received by Congress, Engineer Rashid, Ghulam Hassan Mir and many others.
Sharma has been talking to various media in Delhi since his appointment. He has insisted that he will be talking to all the Indians in the state and he sees Kashmir’s as his second home.

On Sunday he was quoted saying that he lacks the “magic wand” to alter the situation but wants to be judged by his actions. He has said he would make sincere efforts to understand the pain and suffering of the people and find a “suitable remedy”. He will be working for “permanent peace”. Asked if he meets the separatists, Sharam has said it is their choice.
