Investigations Stepped Up to Track Hizb Video: IGP

Police have stepped up investigations to track the origins of a video that shows a group of Hizbul Mujahideen militants playing and practicing arms apparently in an orchard in South Kashmir.

“Police are investigating the origins of this video. We will probe how, when and where it was uploaded on internet,” Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, SJM Gilani, told Srinagar-based news agency GNS.

The 80 second video initially surfaced on messaging application ‘Whats App’ after which it was uploaded on social networking sites and also on news websites. The video shows young Hizb militants cracking jokes with each other, even as some of them were busy in listing “inspirational songs of Jihad”. Among the militants shown in the video were Hizb’s Divisional Commander, Burhan Muzzafar Wani, and ex-cop, Naseer Pandith, who fled with two AK-rifles from the house of a senior PDP Minister to join armed ranks.

Gilani also said that the police will approach court to seek approval for removing the pages on the popular social networking website Facebook that “glorify militants and uploaded their pictures and videos”.
