SRINAGAR: After a prolonged lull, a new case of Covid-19 has emerged in Jammu and Kashmir. Officials emphasise that there is no need to panic but advise the public to exercise precautions.

An official from GMC Jammu said that a patient, who had been in contact with an individual returning from abroad, has tested positive for Covid.

He noted that this marks the first case of the now endemic Covid-19. However, the patient’s sample has been dispatched to the genome sequencing laboratory to identify the sub-variant responsible for the case.

The recovering patient exhibited mild symptoms and is currently under observation at home, the official added.

While emphasising that there is no cause for panic, the official stressed the importance of people maintaining the precautions they adopted earlier.

Officials asserted that standard precautions are sufficient to combat Covid 19 and its strains, dispelling the need for alarm.

They advised the younger population going outdoors to be especially cautious, as they may contract the virus and potentially transmit it to elderly individuals or those with underlying health issues.

Highlighting the increased risk for those with underlying health problems, officials urged this group to exercise heightened precautions, as contracting any virus could prove fatal.

Officials from the Kashmir division reported no new Covid-19 cases in their region.

Dr. Mir Mushtaq, spokesperson for DHSK, emphasized that people should focus on precautions rather than fixating on variants to keep the disease at bay.

“They need to understand whether Covid 19 or its variant is one disease, and the same precautions are required to ward off Covid 19 and its strains or variants,” he said. (KNO)
