Jammu Hoteliers Say Survival at Risk, Seek Govt Support

SRINAGAR: The All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association (AJHLA) on Monday said that hotel occupancy in Jammu has dropped to just 10 percent following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, causing significant losses to the region’s tourism sector.

Addressing a press conference, AJHLA members said the attack has had a severe impact on Jammu’s tourism, with hotel occupancy witnessing a sharp decline.

“Our survival is at risk,” they said, alleging that the government has focused solely on the Kashmir Valley while neglecting the Jammu division in its tourism policies.

Welcoming pilgrims arriving for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY), the association urged them to also explore tourist destinations in Jammu.

“The government has ignored Jammu and directed all attention to Kashmir. Tourists are now visiting Kashmir in large numbers, but Jammu continues to face a downturn in tourism,” they said.

The association demanded that the government formulate a dedicated policy to revive and promote tourism in Jammu.

“We were expecting a good flow of visitors ahead of the Amarnath Yatra, but the situation hasn’t improved. We are now being forced to reduce manpower,” AJHLA members added. — (KNO)
