A joint team of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had launched the operation on Saturday following specific intelligence inputs about militant movement in the area. The operation was initiated under ‘Operation Sheruwali’.

Officials said an encounter broke out between security forces and suspected militants in the Dorimal–Gambhir Moghla belt shortly after the operation began.

In a post on X, the Army’s White Knight Corps said contact was established with terrorists around 11:30 am on Saturday in the Gambhir Moghla area during an intelligence-based joint operation with police and CRPF.

Preliminary inputs suggested the presence of two to three militants in the area. A strong cordon has since been maintained, with extensive surveillance measures in place to prevent any escape, officials added.

The search operation is continuing, and further details are awaited.
