SRINAGAR: A high-level delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, led by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, participated in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Zone-II Conference in Haryana, where legislators from 15 States and Union Territories deliberated on the role of lawmakers and an informed society in achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The conference focused on the theme, “Role of Aware Society and Legislators in Realising Future Challenges and the Goal of Viksit Bharat 2047,” and brought together presiding officers, parliamentarians and legislative representatives from across the country.
The Jammu and Kashmir delegation included MLAs Mubarak Gul, Ajaz Jan, Gharu Ram Bhagat, Iftkhar Ahmed, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, Sunil Bhardwaj and Rameshwar Singh, along with Assembly Secretary Manoj Kumar Pandit.
The event was attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh and Haryana Legislative Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan, among other dignitaries.
Delegates discussed a range of issues expected to shape India’s future, including climate change, environmental sustainability, artificial intelligence, employment generation, skill development, urbanisation, infrastructure expansion, cybersecurity and data protection. The conference also stressed the importance of social harmony, quality education, innovation, institutional accountability and youth participation in governance.
Participants exchanged views on legislative best practices, public engagement in policymaking and strengthening democratic institutions to effectively address emerging challenges.
During the deliberations, the Jammu and Kashmir delegation reaffirmed its commitment to democratic values, inclusive development and contributing to the national vision of a developed India by 2047. The delegation said the conference provided an opportunity to share experiences, learn from successful governance models adopted by other States and enhance the role of legislators in nation-building.
The conference concluded with a collective resolve to promote an informed society, strengthen democratic institutions and work towards building a prosperous, inclusive and developed India by 2047.
