SRINAGAR: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly held its maiden meeting on Monday at the Assembly complex in Srinagar, with an emphasis on ensuring transparency, efficiency, and accountability in public expenditure.
Chaired by Sham Lal Sharma, the meeting was attended by committee members MLAs Tariq Hamid Kara, Nazir Ahmad Khan, Altaf Ahmad Wani, Javid Hassan Beig, Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, and Qaysar Jamshaid Lone.
In his opening remarks, Sharma highlighted the critical role of the PAC in overseeing the financial discipline of government operations. He outlined the committee’s key responsibilities, which include examining audit reports submitted by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), scrutinising government expenditures, and recommending measures for fiscal improvement.
“The Public Accounts Committee is a watchdog of public funds. Its primary aim is to uphold transparency and ensure judicious use of taxpayer money,” the Chairman said. He urged members to carry out their duties with dedication, impartiality, and a commitment to public interest.
Members actively engaged in the deliberations, offering suggestions and raising points for consideration on various issues related to governance and financial accountability.
