SRINAGAR: To improve patient services at the Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, the Baramulla Medical Trust was officially inaugurated on Monday by the college’s Principal, Dr Majid Jahangir.

The launch event, attended by Medical Superintendent Dr Parvaiz Masoodi, civil society members, and local residents, marked the beginning of a community-supported initiative to strengthen healthcare delivery at the GMC’s associated hospital.
As its first contribution, the Trust donated vital medical equipment to the hospital, including 15 patient trolleys, 12 wheelchairs, five nebulisers, suction pumps, and urine containers. The equipment will be distributed across various wards to aid patient mobility, hygiene, and comfort.
A dedicated Help Desk has also been established within the hospital premises by the Trust. Staffed by trained personnel and volunteers, the desk is designed to assist patients and their attendants with directions, general information, and other non-clinical support services.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Majid Jahangir described the initiative as “a compassionate and practical step to ease the burden of patients in government hospitals.” He underscored the importance of such voluntary contributions in bridging service gaps in public health institutions.
Dr Parvaiz Masoodi praised the Trust’s timely contribution and highlighted its potential to improve operational efficiency within the hospital.
The Chairman of the Trust extended his thanks to MLA Baramulla Mr Javeed Hussain Beg and MLA Sangrama Mr Irfan Hafiz Lone for their instrumental support in establishing the Trust.
