SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday announced the establishment of hydro-solar parks of 15 megawatts each to support solar deployment, alongside the expansion of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, as part of its clean energy and technology push outlined in the Budget 2026–27.
Presenting the budget in the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the proposed hydro-solar parks will provide turnkey infrastructure for solar power projects, a move aimed at reducing project risk and enabling faster commissioning of solar installations across the Union Territory.
The Chief Minister said the initiative is expected to accelerate the adoption of clean technologies by streamlining the deployment process and improving investor confidence in renewable energy projects.
As part of the clean mobility initiative, the government also proposed the expansion of EV charging infrastructure, including the setting up of solar-powered charging base stations. The plan further includes the solarisation of feasible government buildings to promote the use of renewable energy in public infrastructure.
In addition, the Science and Technology sector has been allocated Rs 177 crore under capital expenditure for the financial year 2026–27. This marks an increase of Rs 42 crore compared to the previous year, reflecting the government’s focus on strengthening clean technology, innovation and renewable energy-related initiatives in the Union Territory.
