In Shopian, the police have booked a drug peddler, Manzoor Ahmad Reshi, under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS). Reshi, a resident of Wachi Reshi Mohalla, was detained following formal orders from the competent authority and has been lodged in Central Jail Kothbalwal, Jammu.

Reshi, an allegedly habitual offender, has been implicated in multiple cases, including FIR No. 08/2023 of Police Station Bijbehara and FIR No. 36/2023 of Police Station Zainapora. Despite being bound under preventive measures on previous occasions, he continued his involvement in drug trafficking, targeting the youth in Zainapora. Known for his notoriety, Reshi procured narcotics from various sources and sold them at inflated prices, creating a significant public nuisance.

In separate operations, two drug peddlers were arrested in Baramulla and Handwara, with contraband substances recovered from their possession.

In Baramulla, the police apprehended Malik Sajad, a resident of Pandithpora, at a checkpoint in Hundi Nowshera. During the search, 10 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered. Sajad was arrested and remains in custody at Police Station Boniyar.

Meanwhile, in Handwara, a police team intercepted Javid Ahmad War, a resident of Lach Mawar, at Qalamabad Chowk. A search led to the recovery of 25 grams of charas-like substance. War was arrested and taken into custody at the local police station.

Cases under relevant legal provisions have been registered at the respective police stations, and investigations are underway to uncover the sources and networks linked to these individuals.

The police have appealed to the public for cooperation in their fight against drug abuse, urging citizens to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or by calling 112. The statement reinforced the police’s commitment to taking stringent legal action against offenders to ensure a drug-free society.
