The religious Madrassas in Srinagar, Pulwama, kulgam, Ganderbal, Budgam and Bandipora have enjoyed a financial assistance worth Rs.100.32 lakhs during the year 2011-12 out of Rs. 249.96 Lakhs released in their favour. Government has also released a financial assistance worth Rs.17.25 and 5.30 lakhs for NGO’s active in Kashmir and Jammu respectively from 2009-10 and 2011-12.

This was revealed by the government on Wednesday in response to a question asked by independent lawmaker Er Rashid. Government said that it had released Rs.553.45 lakh rupees for the financial assistance of religious Madrassas working in Kashmir Division but these religious institutions utilized only Rs. 100.32 lakhs out of it.

Government said that the Madrassas situated in Islamabad, Baramulla, Kupwara and Shopian did not utilize any financial assistance from the government even though the government had released an amount of Rs. 303.71 lakhs in their favour.

Giving details, government said that Madrassas of Srianagar utilized an amount of Rs. 11.32 lakh, Bandipora Rs. 0.30 lakh, Budgam Rs.30.94 lakh, ganderbal Rs. 21.83 lakh, Kulgam Rs. 27.75 lakh, and Pulwama Rs. 8.11 lakh as financial assistance from the government. While as the Madrassa in Shopian, Baramulla, Kupwara and Islamabad did not utilized the funds meant for them.

Government also released Rs.17.85 lakh in favour of 11 NGO’s of Kashmir from 2009-10 to 1011-12. These NGO’s include Yateem Khana (Charitable), Welfare educational Institute Bemina and others. According to government details tabled in response of the question, no financial assistance has been sanctioned in favour of Rahat Ghar and Disabled education and Empowerment Lal Bazar Srinagar. Meanwhile government has released a financial assistance worth Rs. 5.30 lakh in favour of NGO’s namely SOS Children Village Channi Rama , Jammu and Bal Niketen Ved Mandhir Amphalla, Jammu from 2009-10 and 2011-12.
