JK Police Crack Down on Drug Trafficking in Kashmir, Arrest Eight

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking, arresting four drug peddlers in Srinagar and Budgam while also booking four others under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act in Kulgam.

Contraband substances were recovered from those arrested in Srinagar and Budgam, and the suspects in Kulgam have been lodged in different district jails following legal proceedings.

A police spokesperson in a statement said, “In Srinagar, a police team at a checkpoint in Noorbagh Chowk intercepted a vehicle (KUV-100, registration number JK01AD-2899) carrying three individuals. Identified as Ahmad Bin Ishaq Kawa of Nawakadal, Daniyal Ahmad Basati of Palpora Noorbagh, and Taha Yasir of Aalikadal Srinagar, they were found in possession of 184 grams of charas. The police arrested them and seized their vehicle.”

Meanwhile, in Budgam, police at a checkpoint in Aripanthan apprehended Ishfaq Ahmad Ganie of Saranhal Batpora Budgam and recovered 61 grams of charas wrapped in corn husk. “He was taken into custody, and cases under relevant laws were registered at respective police stations, with investigations underway.”

“In Kulgam, police have booked four drug peddlers under the PIT NDPS Act following the issuance of warrants by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir. The accused—Fayaz Ahmad Khan of Gudder, Naseer Ahmad Shan of Kilam, Tariq Ahmad Rather of Yamrach, Yaripora, and Ghulam Nabi Lone of Rambhama—were detained and lodged in District Jails in Udhampur, Poonch, Kathua, and Rajouri, respectively. Their detention followed the submission of material records, dossiers, and related documents by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Kulgam,” the statement reads.
