SRINAGAR: J&K Students Association here on Wednesday urged Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene into the issue of admission/affiliations of Desh Bhagat University Punjab.

In a Statement Additional Spokesperson of Association, Danish lone said that over 500 students from Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory who are pursuing different paramedical courses in Desh Bhagat University Punjab are protesting against University authorities for their arbitrary and unilateral decision of transferring admissions of all enrolled students of University to Sardar Lal Singh Memorial College which runs under aegis of DBU Punjab but is not affiliated to Indian Nursing Council.

The admissions have been transferred to SLSM College without taking into consideration the consent of students or their parents or guardians. Lone said that, the students have taken admission into different paramedical courses and paid admission fees and other charges under proper receipts. Per students, they have paid for admission into faculty of nursing main campus DBU Punjab after proper understanding and agreement. He added that after finding their admission records in some other college, the students feel cheated.

He further added that a recent notification of J&K Paramedical Council number JKPMC/OUTSIDE/5615-5626 Dated 14/03/2022 issued by Principal/Dean JKPC GMC Srinagar, read with circular number 33-SPMC of 2018 Dated 01/10/2018 a circular issued by JKPC GMC Srinagar, has kept all the degrees/diplomas certificates from DBU Punjab on hold pending clarification from University alleging flouting of norms as mandated by law. “This has not only put to stake the career of enrolled students but also posed an threat to means of livelihood of almost 4000 students who have passed out from university”, added Danish who is camping with other members of JKSA at Punjab to settle the issue.

Desh Bhagat University Coordinator for Jammu and Kashmir Students Association Adil Dar also voiced similar concerns and termed the unilateral decision of admission transfer as outrageous. He added that the enrolled students have repeatedly sought clarifications from the University authorities. “The university authorities have maintained complete silence on the core issue and are since then trying to dodge the students citing one excuse after the other,” added Dar.

Pertinent to mention that the aggrieved students had sought intervention of JKSA which sent its two senior members to Punjab for mediation into the issue. After series of interactions with necessary quarters, the association met Vice Chancellor of DBU Punjab with talks remaining inconclusive and without any solution.

In the meantime, as per official spokesperson of J&K Students Association Nasir Khuehami, the team tried best to seek an on record clarification from University into much complicated issue but couldn’t do so owing to the reluctant attitude of office bearers at main University campus. “With the entire state machinery in Punjab being busy with arrangements for new government to assume office, the students on protest have Lieutenant Governor Sinha as only hope, added Khuehami who sought intervention into the matter at the earliest & urged LG Manoj Sinha to seek report from concerned university and JK PMC GMC Srinagar.

“We are hoping for expedite intervention of Office of Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir much to the satisfaction of enrolled and other students who have passed out from University,” concluded Khuehami.
