SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Ganderbal, Handwara, and Srinagar have taken significant actions against drug trafficking and gambling, making multiple arrests and seizing contraband substances, vehicles, and stake money.
In Ganderbal, a police party from Police Post Nagbal intercepted a suspicious individual at a checkpoint in Shuhama. The person, identified as Nisar Ahmad Kambay, attempted to flee upon noticing the police but was apprehended after a brief chase. “During the search, police recovered a contraband substance, including bangpattri, seeds, and tops. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered, and the investigation is underway. The police have called on community members to report any drug-related activities in their neighbourhoods,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.
Meanwhile, in Handwara, police seized a Hyundai Venue vehicle worth Rs 10.5 lakhs, believed to have been bought using proceeds from illegal drug trafficking. “The vehicle, registered under JK01AT-4651 and owned by notorious drug peddler Javeed Ahmad Sofi, was attached as part of an ongoing investigation linked to multiple drug-related cases. The police reaffirmed their commitment to curbing drug abuse and trafficking in the region and continue to receive support from local communities.”
In Srinagar, the police raided a gambling location in the Bemina area, arresting three individuals identified as Ubaid Ahmad Mir, Aamir Hameed Shooda, and Adil Ahmad Gashroo, all residents of Arampora Qamarwari.
The statement reads, “Police recovered a stake money of Rs 11,460, playing cards, and three mobile phones from their possession. A case has been registered under relevant sections, and investigations are ongoing. The police urged the community to share information about criminal activities to help maintain peace and order.”
